Coldest game attended?
Orient away at Brisbane Road in the FA Cup in 87....Paul Hilton scoring from memory only to concede a last minute pen....think the replay got pushed back a few times due to the weather as well.

Steaua Bucharest away....didn’t dress appropriately and ended up having to buy a hat and gloves in the ground from an Old Bill looking to make a few quid.

The one that stands out was 1st January 1997 at home to Forest.
A totally shit performance culminating in 1-0 reverse.

The only good thing about the day was the flask of hot chocolate which I smuggled into the ground.

Re: Coldest game attended?
Definitely that game at Orient. Absolutely fucking freezing, painfully so. I might be wrong but was it an open terrace where we were?

Re: Coldest game attended?

Re: Coldest game attended?
Well it would have been if it had been played but I think it was Southampton at home back in the days before internet and phones and my late dad and I got the train up from Sussex and when we got to Upton Park 1000's were walking in the other direction with the game being called off half an hour before kick off. It was a tad chilly that day!!

Wrexham away in the cup, 1-1, first time Porfirio had seen snow, think he notched as well.

They done us at home in the replay

Re: Coldest game attended?
Roker Park could be proper cold.

One year it was Spring in the centre of Sunderland, and mid-Winter at Roker Park.

Cup game v Plymouth in about 1990. Only about 5k there. Dolan equalised late to take it to extra time and I don't think most of us were that pleased.

That cup game v Man Utd in 2010 that finished 4 0.

The league game v Birmingham in 2009 was well below freezing. From the bus home, I saw a bloke in pyjama pants, a vest and bare feet standing in a doorway like he'd walked out of hospital. Hopefully someone helped.

Roeders Jacket 12.34 - I did think so. I couldn't remember any roof. Bitterly, bitterly cold. I lived in Leyton at the time and remember staggering home with the agony of properly frozen feet hands and face,, the kind of cold which genuinely hurts.

Any game over the LS.

That gaff was built for the athletics in warmer weather.

And yes before you start saying you can’t do anything about that, I see that where Celtic played last week there was heating in the ground. It said so on TWATTER.

Re: Coldest game attended?
A few already mentioned....Orient 87 Pompey 90 and Bucharest, but for me there was Roker Park in 93 after Bobby Moore died...snow was coming down horizontally on an open terrace right into our faces. Shitty 0-0 draw too.

Also Stoke at home in 04-05. Lost 1 nil.

One of my lasting memories was of my feet feeling like they were stuck to the concrete terrace.....I think being 87 I was probably wearing a pair of Hi-Trek trainers which probably didn’t help!

Cambridge at home on a Friday night just before Christmas in 1979. Snowed and a bloke streaked. Everyone dancing to the Mike Oldfield song. I think there was only about 10,000 there

Re: Coldest game attended?
I think the problem with that particular Orient game was that it was absolutely freezing (some of the other games mentioned were probably colder in actual degree terms) but it came on a Saturday when it was sunny in the morning (but cold) after a couple of weeks of lovely warm weather.

The upshot was that most of us were in shirts and T-shirts having been totally caught out. Plus, our open stand was only about half-full. I remember loads of us running up and down the shallow stairs trying to get warm. Funny but horrible at the same time. My hands were blue.

The Shrewsbury home game at the OS was fucking horrible too. I almost hoped Shrewsbury knocked us out rather than having to endure another half-hour.

Re: Coldest game attended?
Wigan at home about 10 years back. Absolutely 'taters.

We got dicked too so most of the ground fucked off, in the BML we had a little party CR end and got ourselves a round of applause from the remaining CR and West Stand fans for our troubles.

Felt like we'd caught fire once we got in the warmth of the Stanley after.

Re: Coldest game attended?
I'm not sure about that Chim? I don't remember being in a t shirt. All I remember is it being relentlessly, leadenly, numbingly cold like a fucking Siberian Gulag with a vicious wind from time to time. I couldn't wait for the game to end.
